Mark Pirner

Dr. Mark Pirner, MD, PhD is the PepsiCo Global R&D Senior Director of Clinical and Scientific Development Strategy. He leads the PepsiCo Biology Innovation Laboratory in New Haven, Conn., and in addition is accountable for PepsiCo global clinical science and operations including oversight of all clinical research strategy and development.

Dr. Pirner was previously Medical Director, Clinical Science at Takeda Global Research and Development, where he was responsible for clinical development of medical products for the treatment of diabetes and obesity and the scientific assessment of new business opportunities. Prior to Takeda, Dr. Pirner was a key medical scientist for obesity pharmaceutical clinical development and international medical nutrition products and devices at Abbott Laboratories. Before joining Abbott he was in clinical practice and held an adjunct faculty position at University of Wisconsin Medical School.

Dr. Pirner earned a PhD in biological sciences and a Medical Degree from the University of Minnesota MD/PhD Program. He completed his medical residency at Duke University Medical Center and endocrinology fellowship at the NIDDK division of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
